Guest Column

We’ve reached out to our metal and hard rock brethren across the land, asking that they contribute prose to our recent series of guest columns. We ran a recent series on Five Albums That Will Change You, and the response was overwhelming.

The topic is Three Bands You May Not Know About But Should, and we asked that each guest writer jot down a brief description of what makes each band worthy of our attention. Today, we are excited to continue this ongoing series with an entry written by Bob Balch, a member of Fu Manchu and this new band you may have read about on the site, Sun & Sail Club.

Void
The people who do know about Void know what I’m talking about. The craziest ‘80s hardcore punk band ever. Fu Manchu covered one of their songs. The Faith/Void split is still one my favorites.

Icecross
Early 1970s band from Europe. I think they were from Kristiania, which Fu Manchu have played a ton and it’s always an insane show. If you dig ‘70s rock, check these guys out.

Weed
In 1971, between the release of Uriah Heep’s albums Salisbury and Look At Yourself, Ken Hensley went to Germany to record an album for a project simply called Weed. It rules.
